Over the last month, third graders learned all about different poetic techniques to enhance their poetry. Students started by reading lots of different poems. After, third graders started to notice different patterns and techniques. Third graders were exposed to alliteration, onomatopoeia, assonance, rhythm, sensory details, and many more techniques! After writing several poems, students published their poems and shared three of their poems publicly at our Third Grade Poetry Slam here in Saline. Thank you Brewed Awakenings for hosting such a special event!

Wow! We have spent 100 days together in third grade. I am SO proud of these third graders progress and growth in third grade this year. To celebrate this very fun day, we teamed up with our Kindergarten buddies to practice our numbers with a little twist! With their Kindergarten buddies, third graders participated in a Hershey Kiss Scavenger Hunt. Students searched all around the room for 100 Hershey Kisses with all 100 numbers on the bottom! They loved it! After the scavenger hunt, students each received a sucker and had to count how many licks it took to get the center! We had a great afternoon celebrating 100 days together!
Students learned all about weather and climate over the last month. Students explored different climate zones around the world. Students even brainstormed different solutions to help reduce the impacts of weather related hazards. Check out student created weather forecasts for specific climate zones below! Our students have been exploring their first PBL unit by researching the following driving question: How could you plan a trip through Michigan that shows all the variety our state has to offer? Third graders have been working very hard on applying their knowledge of Michigan geography, natural resources, physical features, and economic activities in their Michigan road trip projects. Our classroom was very fortunate to have some VERY special visitors. We had two Pure Michigan representatives come join our Michigan celebration. These visitors listened to student presentations and provided feedback. Students even got to take a Pure Michigan sticker and tattoo home! Over the course of the last month, students have been learning about Michigan history. Third graders researched important events and people in Michigan's history. Then, students used their creativity and collaboration skills to design a representation of a particular event/person in the Makerspace. We then combined all of these creations into a video using our Makerspace green screen. Check out our Michigan timeline video! Check out some of our favorite moments from our Weber-Blaess field trip. We had so much fun going back in time!! Over the last month, these third graders have been working very hard to understand force in relation to simple machines. Students were introduced to simple machines. Then, they were able to use their collaboration skills to build four different simple machines. After building, groups worked together to create compound machines. We even taught our kindergarten buddies about forces and simple machines! |
